 We're on the lookout for a passionate and capable Chef to join our team at The George Inn, Winterton.

This role is perfect for someone who takes pride in their food, loves to get creative in the kitchen, and can manage a service with confidence. You’ll have the freedom to bring your ideas to life while ensuring quality and consistency across every dish.

We’re after someone who’s self-motivated, organised, and comfortable working independently. You’ll be expected to manage day-to-day kitchen operations, maintain high standards of cleanliness and safety, and take ownership of the food we serve.

Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with the front-of-house team to ensure smooth service and a great customer experience.
  • Plan and prepare high-quality meals using fresh ingredients, with the freedom to contribute creative ideas and seasonal specials.
  • Independently manage day-to-day kitchen operations, including prep, cooking, plating, and cleaning.
  • Maintain excellent hygiene and safety standards, ensuring the kitchen is always clean, organised, and compliant with regulations.
  • Monitor stock levels, manage orders, and reduce waste, keeping the kitchen well-stocked and cost-effective.

Requirements

  • Proven experience working in a professional kitchen, ideally with time spent running or managing solo shifts.
  • A genuine passion for food and creativity in designing dishes, specials, or menus.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to multitask and stay calm under pressure.
  • Good knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards, with relevant certifications (e.g. Food Hygiene Level 2 or higher).
  • Self-motivated and reliable, with a strong work ethic and the initiative to work independently.

Nice To Have
  • Experience creating or evolving a pub-style menu, especially with fresh, seasonal, or locally sourced ingredients.
  • Knowledge of dietary requirements and confidence creating vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free options.
  • Comfortable with kitchen admin, like HACCP logs, allergen tracking, and stock control systems.
  • Previous experience in a small, independent venue, where adaptability and initiative are key.
  • A flair for presentation and an eye for the little details that elevate the dining experience.
